| State of Emergency in Cairo Sun, 27 Jul 2008 21:26:40 -0400 A State of Emergency has been declared for the town of Cairo in the Greene County. Around 8:00 PM the county decided to declare the emergency because of conditions produced by extremely high winds and/or tornatos, flooding, road, bridge and property damage, wide spread power outages and downed trees and power lines. The Resurrection Luteran Church on Route 32 and Route 23 has been declared the designated shelter for an individuals who have been adversely affected by the storms on Sunday. There are about 1,300 Central Hudson customers without power. The shelter will remain open till midday Monday for anyone in need.
